About a year ago, I started recommending to daily newspapers various ideas that might help them improve their businesses. The ideas ranged from small to large, valuable to ridiculous, and easy to challenging (to implement), but all the ideas were legitimate ones made in a sincere, honest attempt to offer tangible ideas from a lifelong newspaper reader. I was reminded of this exercise again when I read an article on followthemedia.com that suggested that local dailies should webcast local government meetings. It’s an excellent idea that I wish I had thought of. I bet lots of dailies wish they had thought of it too (though it’s not too late to start trying to claw back onto the playing field they’re being carried off from on a stretcher).
