Jobing Buys LocalCareers.com; Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Partners With Monster

Another daily paper has thrown in the towel and completely ceded its employment classified business to Monster. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has apparently decided it cannot possibly manage this portion of its business, so it has outsourced its job classifieds to Monster. As has been discussed before (here and here), I cannot imagine what would compel a daily paper to think that a partnership with Monster could create any value for its business over the long-term. The only thing these partnerships accomplish for a daily paper is conditioning that paper’s online readers to go elsewhere for employment-related classifieds and services.

In M&A activity in the space, which hasn’t slowed down at all in recent months, Jobing.com has acquired LocalCareers.com, a Milwaukee-based job board serving local markets around the U.S. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, I hope the price wasn’t too high. LocalCareers appears to be a fairly ordinary job board that does little to differentiate itself.

In other news, Jobster continues to fumble around with its business, confusing everyone about what it’s trying to do in the market. Very strange.

And finally, Alan Mutter (the Newsosaur), wrote a piece yesterday advising Minneapolis Star Tribune Publisher Par Ridder to resign given the disaster that he’s going through. Good advice.
